COMMUNITY ART + ACTION
"The Art Museum recently welcomed two new staffers to our Public Engagement department as part of our Art + Action Incubator program. This nine-month fellowship is designed to support the work of changemakers in our community who are committed to social action through the arts. Art + Action fellows bring their expertise to develop projects that educate, uplift, and celebrate community, partnering with local organizations to engage and empower people to participate in the restorative power of art. Our 2023 Art + Action fellows are focused on the intersections of creativity, healing, mental health, and community wellness."
PROJECTS DURING ART FELLOWSHIP
VISUAL EXPLORERS GAME
( VISUAL THINKING CURRICULUM)
As you may know by now, Art and its impact it on our social, emotional, and personal development is a great passion of mine.
Thanks to the support of the @atownartmuseum choosing me as one of their Community Art and Action fellows and the incredible support my school @artsacademyelementary and the team of 1st Grade Teachers and Teacher Aids I was avail to research, design, and implement and educational project in which our academic teachers use art and conversations around arts in their classroom as a way to develop critical thinking among our 1st grade students.
In a form of a Game and while exposed to some of the museums art collection, our students learned how become “Visual Explorers” and share with their peers what they think it’s happening in the work of art.
After playing the game in their classrooms several times, the students get to visit the museum and play the game in within the galleries with actual pieces from the museums collection.
With now this base I am now currently collaborating with other of my peers at school on building more of this and applying in it in the teaching strategies for reading, writing and math.
